This is evident in the playable races - the hulking Roegadyn of FFXIV are similar in stature to FFXI's Galka, for example. Another holdover from FFXI is the split of 3 city-state factions - though in the new world of Eorzea, these won't be Bastok, Windurst and San d'Oria of Vana'diel. The game will also follow the same subscription model as FFXI, at $12.99 per month. The PC release is currently slated for September 30, 2010, though I wouldn't be surprised to see this date pushed back as the game is still in alpha testing.
Brink
Something interesting is cooking over at Bethesda Softworks. Brink is a futuristic FPS, set in a rusty post-apocalyptic landscape that hearkens back to Fallout. Brink offers single, co-op and multiplayer gameplay, which is a bit different from your standard FPS fare. An interesting feature is the character customization, which is rarely even a thought in FPS games. Many multiplayer games that offer character customization are also very slow to load due to the unique character features. In an FPS that might just be the kiss of death, so I hope Bethesda's got that feature worked out. Another cool feature is the game's use of parkour, which should be very interesting in multiplayer mode.
The game takes place in The Ark, a city that floats above the Earth (which has been flooded). The game features several player classes, not unlike Team Fortress 2. Brink's co-op mode supports up to 8 players, who can play through a story mode or turn their team online for multiplayer combat. Brink is scheduled for a spring 2011 release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
End of Nations
End of Nations is a new MMORTS...that's right, MMORTS. This shooting games online looks massive. End of Nations is being developed by Petroglyph games and is slated for release sometime in 2011. This game is set right here on Earth in the not-so-distant future, working under the pretense of a collapsed world in the wake of the recent financial crises. An evil hierarchy known as the Order of Nations sprang up from the ashes and threatened to dominate the world. However, if you bought your Nintendo Gamecube second hand, you may or may not have been given this game. If not, look for it at a game exchange, yardsale, or pawn shop. Some retail chains may still carry it as well.
2. Sonic Mega Collection. This game disc has seven games on it: Sonic the Hedgehog (all three of them), Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3-D Blast, Sonic Spinball, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Not only will it take a while before your child has played all seven of the games on the disc, but he or she still has to beat his or her older siblings at least once on each game. Trust me when I say they will.
3. Sonic Heroes. Another Sonic the Hedgehog game that is insanely easy for my preschooler, yet my teenage children can't seem to get as far up on levels. The Sonic the Hedgehog games tend to hold little ones' attention span longer.
4. Disney's Chicken Little. This game was released a little before Christmas time last year, and I had to look everywhere to find it.
